“John explained that the weak skills are like shorted-out connections in Jacob’s brain.”

Wow. Today was fascinating. We had our consultation and cognitive skills test for Jake at LearningRx. Jacob was a little nervous, but when he met John, and John told him that LearningRx wasn’t like school, he brightened up. Ha ha! And then they went through the test, which didn’t seem too painful – there were a few times Jake got frustrated because he couldn’t get the answers John was looking for. But John just backed off and said “that’s okay” and I could tell that helped Jake feel better.

The consultation was the best part. We got this neat report that showed us Jacob’s cognitive skills. He was low in attention, and memory – not a surprise – but he’s also low in auditory processing, logic & reasoning, and a few others, and those surprised us. John explained that the weak skills are like shorted-out connections in Jacob’s brain. He needs them to function in order to learn normally, but they are too weak, and so he struggles. So, what the LearningRx program does is strengthen those weak parts. Not sure yet how this happens, but I’m looking forward to seeing it in action. And it’s cool to see, on paper, actual reasons for all the symptoms we’ve been seeing all this time.
