“You can’t put a price tag on your child’s happiness.”
After lots of consideration, we signed Jake up for LearningRx. The biggest hurdle was the price – but it is one-on-one training, and that is bound to cost something, like a personal trainer at the gym. And I guess it isn’t much more than braces or lots of other medical things some kids need. Anyway, the financial part is going to stretch us, but as Mike put it “you can’t put a price tag on your child’s happiness”. I agree.
I just thought of something: what if Jacob DID have to stay with us his whole adult life? Wow. That in itself would be much more expensive than this program. Anyway if the program makes him smarter, we’ll have to pay for his college! Somehow don’t think I’ll mind!
The above is based on a true story of a LearningRx family. For more about the story behind these journal entries, click here.

I really like the whole “personal trainer” metaphor to LearningRx brain training. While LearningRx does have a computer program for students to participate at home, I feel it is more effective to have a one-on-one motivator to help accelerate and build skills throughout the course of the program. A personal trainer can really see the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student and work to tweak these areas according to the student’s individual needs. This is a phenomenon that schools can’t substantiate with large classroom settings of 20 or more kids. Even students in school resource rooms are usually subject to 3-4 other students. It’s amazing how little one-on-one time we really get in mainstream school settings. LearningRx builds academic skills, but also lets students feel an individual connection to their own unique one-on-one teacher for 12-36 weeks. I feel this psychological connection plays a more important role than we realize in creating learning motivation and building intrinsic academic satisfaction in students. LearningRx helps bridge this gap while producing amazing results with most students.

AGREE! So many times people say, “but we can’t afford that!!”. Meanwhile, they find the means to pay for 2 (or more cell phones, big cable packages, eating out a lot, electronic games, trips, the list goes on. The price for an understanding in your education – for a LIFETIME – -PRICELESS!!
