“So I asked her what it was that had helped their daughter.”

Went for a walk in the park today with Heather. It was a beautiful day, but cold. We talked about Jacob – it was nice to confide in someone. A lot of times I don’t want to talk about it, or tell other women, especially when they have normal kids! But Heather was so nice, and she actually told me that her sweet little girl, Megan, had learning disabilities! I just met Heather last year so I didn’t know her when they were going through this, but apparently Megan (who is 12 now) was really behind in school when she was Jake’s age. Same kind of stuff – ADHD and memory problems especially, and reading was totally impossible. It was amazing to hear her talk about the frustrating homework sessions! Just like us!

So I asked her what it was that had helped their daughter.  She said they had tried medication for Megan, and that it helped some with the ADHD, but she had some bad side-effects, and it wasn’t producing the improvements they wanted to see. Her grades were still bad, she still couldn’t remember much, and stuff like that. So then I guess they took her to this place called LearningRx – I’ve seen the sign, it’s on the way to Joshua’s school – and she explained some about what they do. I don’t really fully understand it, and I’m skeptical because Megan didn’t have PDD, like Jacob does, and who knows if they help with that. But it’s interesting anyway, and I’m curious, so I’ll probably ask Mike to do some research with me later this week.
