Here are the answers to our logic and reasoning skill tests. See how all the cognitive skills work together in your amazing brain.

Last time, we posted a few puzzles to test your logic and reasoning skills. In this post, you can find out how you did! Below are the answers to the three quiz questions, and an explanation of how each answer is achieved.

Logic and Reasoning Skills: Quiz Answers

The first answer is found by visualizing the 5 men standing in a line, and remembering each of their names. Then, moving the last three men up to the front of the line, and keeping track of their order. Do that three times, and here is what you get. First, they are standing in this order: Paul, Ben, Andy, Dave, Tim. Move the last three to the beginning of the line (keeping them in consecutive order) and you have: Andy, Dave, Tim, Paul, Ben. Do it one more time and you have: Tim, Paul, Ben, Andy, Dave. Do it one last time and you wind up with: Ben, Andy, Dave, Tim, Paul. Therefore, Dave is in the middle of the line, and Dave is the correct answer. This puzzle takes not only logic and reasoning skills, but also visualization and reading comprehension skills.

The second puzzle is a little harder. To see the answer, visualize a Venn Diagram with a cross-section that contains Clinks, Clunks and Rattles. Seeing that cross-section will help you to realize that since half of Rattles are Bangs, it would be impossible for all Clinks to be Rattles if none of them were Bangs.

The third problem is the most purely “visual” puzzle. You must be able to visualize a cube, remember the colors of the sides, and keep track of which way the woman is walking after each turn. The answer is, she winds up on a yellow cube-face.

Logic and Reasoning Skills: Integrated Cognitive Skills

The most interesting part of this is that you begin to see that the cognitive skills are very involved with each other! It’s hard to take a logic and reasoning skill test without using reading and comprehension skills, memory skills, and visualization skills. The brain is amazingly integrated, and that is why LearningRx takes the approach it does, training the cognitive skills so that they can work more easily, and integrate more effectively to accomplish complex tasks and problems.

A logic and reasoning skill test can help determine strong and weak areas of your brain. Try our short quizzes yourself and see how strong your skills are...and compare your results with your friends!

Any logic and reasoning skill test is designed to see how well you handle and solve problems, using logic. Logic & Reasoning is one of the brain’s cognitive skills. When this skill is strong, logical thinking comes naturally, although logic, like math, still must be taught. A person with weak logic and reasoning skills will have a harder time grasping logical concepts and approaching problems logically in order to solve them with minimal frustration. A logic and reasoning skill test can give you an idea of the strength or weakness of this area of your brain.

Logic and Reasoning Skill Test: Try A Few Logic Puzzles

Five men (Paul, Ben, Andy, Dave and Tim) are all standing in a line. The last three men in line move simultaneously to the front of the line with their order maintained. If this procedure were repeated two more times, which man would end up in the middle of the line?

a.	Tim
b.	Dave
c.	Andy
d.	Ben
e.	Paul

Half of all Clinks are Clunks, half of all Rattles are Bangs, and half of all Rattles are Clunks. Considering the limited information above, which of the following could not be true?

a.	Half of all Clunks are Bangs
b.	All of the following are correct
c.	All Clinks are Rattles
d.	All Rattles are Clinks with no Clinks being Bangs

A certain metallic cube has a red top, a green bottom, two yellow sides, and a blue front and back. A woman with magnetic boots standing on the red top face walks forward onto the front blue face, turns right and walks three faces, turns left and walks three faces, turns right and walks two faces, and turns to her left and walks one face. What color is the face on which she now stands?

a.	Green
b.	Blue
c.	Yellow
d.	Red

Why is it important to improve logic and reasoning? Because so many things in life are affected by this cognitive skill.

Improve Logic and Reasoning

Everybody knows somebody who always says “I’m a logical person” or “I think rationally.” And many times we assume that being a logical thinker is just a personality trait – but the truth is, logical thinking can be trained and improved. Years ago, logic was taught in elementary school classrooms – logic, like math, follows a system of rules and laws that can be taught and applied theoretically and philosophically. But don’t be fooled: there’s a big difference between learning how logic works and having the ability to think logically.

Improve logic and reasoning: Why is it important?

Which is better: using logic to make decisions or using your “gut instinct” to make decisions? The characters Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk on Star Trek made this debate famous. It’s often thought that people who depend solely on reasoning and critical thinking tend to make fewer damaging judgment errors than those who always follow emotional impulses, and perhaps that’s true. But reality is, the ability to make a snap decision correctly, or under pressure, is also very valuable.

The fact is that nobody can be Mr. Spock. Our emotions simply will affect our decisions – it’s just part of being human. But when logic and reasoning skills are strong, it helps provide a cognitive structure that balances out and tempers the emotions. This (combined with all the facts and truth we learn as we grow) creates in us the ability to make good judgments, even under the influence of emotion or peer pressure.
